Brazilian Piano Trio 
pays tribute to the legendary Brazilian piano trios of the 1960s—such as Sambalanço Trio, Jongo Trio, Tamba Trio, and Zimbo Trio—whose groundbreaking sound fused jazz improvisation with Brazilian rhythm and lyricism. The ensemble features original compositions by pianist Gilson Schachnik, alongside works by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, and Cesar Camargo Mariano, celebrating the timeless artistry and innovation of Brazil’s rich musical heritage.


BIO:

Gilson Schachnik is the Chair of the Ear Training Department and adjunct faculty in the Ensemble Department at Berklee College of Music. A native of São Paulo, Brazil, he has performed with Peter Erskine, Harvey Mason, Claudio Roditi, Bill Pierce, and Miguel Zenón. Schachnik co-leads the Brazilian jazz group Mozik with drummer Mauricio Zottarelli and is the author of Beginning Ear Training. He regularly conducts Berklee auditions and master classes worldwide.


Oscar Stagnaro is a four-time Grammy Award–winning bassist, composer, and educator celebrated for his mastery of jazz, fusion, and Latin styles. A native of Peru, he has toured and recorded with many of the world’s leading Latin and jazz artists. A professor at Berklee College of Music since 1988 and faculty member at the New England Conservatory, Oscar is co-author of The Latin Bass Book and author of The Afro-Cuban Slap Book.

Mark Walker is a Grammy and Latin Grammy–winning drummer, composer, and educator whose four-decade career includes collaborations with Paquito D’Rivera, Lyle Mays, Michel Camilo, Eliane Elias, and Oregon. A Grammy-nominated composer and author of World Jazz Drumming (Hal Leonard), he teaches at Berklee College of Music, Berklee Online, and New England Conservatory. His acclaimed debut album You Get What You Give blends jazz and world influences, reflecting his signature global sound.


Gilson Schachnik is a Professor in the Ear Training Department and adjunct faculty in the Ensemble  and CWP Departments at Berklee College of Music. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Gilson toured the country with Rosa Maria and Patricia Marx. He also recorded jingles for BASF and TV Cultura.

After receiving a scholarship in 1990, Schachnik moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend Berklee and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition. Since then, he has performed with Al Jarreau, Peter Erskine, Harvey Mason, Claudio Roditi, Bill Pierce, Jerry Bergonzi, Bill Pierce, Miguel Zenon, Antonio Sanchez, and many others.

Schachnik joined the faculty in 2002, and wrote Beginning Ear Training. In 2010, he and Brazilian drummer Mauricio Zottarelli formed the group Mozik, releasing their first recording, Mozik. Since then the group has performed extensively in the U.S. In addition to being an active performer in the Boston area, Schachnik has been a member of Berklee's audition team and has performed auditions and given master classes in Canada, Brazil, and Palestine.
