The Jazz Vocal Jam Session takes place the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month from 3pm-6pm. A featured vocalist will start each session before inviting other vocalists to join the house band. There will be a physical sign-up sheet which will be first come, first serve.
We appreciate if you purchase something to help the restaurant out for bringing all of this great jazz to us!
This week the featured singer will be Dusia Lehrer.
Dusia Lehrer is a jazz vocalist and songwriter currently based in Boston. She studied at a theater high school, and later graduated from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music. She continued her music studies at the Rimon Jazz Institute, and was later awarded a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music, where she is currently majoring in Jazz Composition and Performance.
Alongside her studies, Dusia developed an active performance career. She led a jazz quintet and trio, collaborated with many jazz musicians and composers, performed as a lead singer in a jazz big band, and recorded music for film and theater projects. In her artistic work, she experimented with blending contemporary jazz and Russian folk music, performing her own original compositions as well as arrangements of jazz standards.
With her background in theater, Dusia’s performances are always based on a deep inner sense of meaning and expression. Her style is rooted in the classic jazz tradition while embracing other musical genres — from folk music to hip-hop. She views jazz as a living and dynamic art form that reflects contemporary musical language while honoring tradition.
Drawing inspiration from the singing of Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, and Chet Baker, Dusia has developed her own unique timbre and personal style, approaching jazz as an active and relevant form of artistic expression.
